It's A New Day

Post Election

We have witnessed one of the most historic moments of our lives. The election of an African American to the office of President of the United States of America. America has done the right thing! We elected the best candidate not because he was or was not black, but in spite of it, because it did not matter. We elected hope. We elected ideas. We elected change. The world is watching. People all over the world sit and wait to see what we will do next, what our new President will do first. We have a chance to once again lead the free world and do it by example. We once again are that last beacon where anything is possible. Yes We Can!

The Hour Is Late, Our Enemies Watch

Watching John McCain today in Pennsylvania, he said "My friends, the hour is late, our enemies watch"! Who is he talking about? Al-qaeda, Democrats, The middle class, who? Have you ever seen the movie Manchurian Candidate, hmmmmm...
At this same rally today, John McCain told a story he was very proud of. He told of his mother who is 90+ years old going to Paris. She tried to rent a car once there so she could drive around. She was informed that she was too old. She then left and went to an automobile dealership and purchased a car and drove around anyway. Does this represent any of you? First of all, she was too old to drive but did it anyway, not the way a guest should behave in someone else's country. Second, it demonstrates how out of touch John McCain is if he thinks that that resonates with anyone other that someone of wealth and or power.
Finally, after watching the final presidential debate, I think John McCain did much better with his base but most people I think, saw an angry old man. He was not able to sit still in his chair and at times looked like he was seething. His childish facial expressions reminded me of my twelve year old. If he is not capable of sitting down and discussing the issues with Barack Obama, then how will he be able to sit down with leaders of other countries that we disagree with? Oh, that's right! He wont!

Mcpain & Failin

With all of the problems facing our nation today, the Mcpain/Failin campaign is up to their old tricks again. The idea is to "turn the page on the economy" and focus on ways to slight Barack Obama's character. I think it is funny that every time the Republicans try it this time, they fall back in it. We have simply had enough! No slight of hand, no mysterious person behind the curtain...just the facts. According to factcheck.org, John McCain did defend Keating and his cronies in the S&L debacle of the 1980's. He was scolded by the Senate for his poor judgement then, and now where are we? We are in a bigger banking mess than we were then and John McCain thinks he is the "maverick" with the answers. He honestly makes me sick to my stomach. To quote a Republican Congressman on CNN yesterday, "If 'Republican' were a brand of dog food, they would take it off the shelves".

The Bell Didn't Even Ring

Did anyone notice that there was no opening bell at the NYSE this morning? I think that is the first time that has ever happened. The market dropped over 750 points today, maybe its a good thing the bell didn't ring.

Incompetent Buffoon

Hey folks,
The Fed chairman told Congress today that our entire financial system is only days away from total collapse. You and I are getting ready to buy up all of the bad debt hanging over the economy and our dollar is subject to falling apart. I mean shredded. I don't think that I have to remind any of you that John McCain just recently said "the fundamentals of our economy are strong". I guess it is like Jack Cafferty said "When you graduate 894th out of a class of 899, eventually it will show up". The Wall Street Journal is even blasting McCain. "If you're a Republican running for president of the United States and the Wall Street Journal basically says you're an incompetent buffoon, you're in serious trouble" (Cafferty, 2008).

Hope

I wanted to speak a little about hope. The reason is because it is one of the main differences between the Democrats and Republicans. The Democrats offer hope. It is sad to see Republicans scoff at this as though it is some far out concept. Do you think African Americans could have made it through periods of slavery and segregation were it not for hope? Was it not hope that fought a war between the states and ended in one unified country? I certainly think that all Abraham Lincoln had to go on was hope at times.
John McCain offers no hope at a time when our country is in its worst position in recent history. Barack Obama may not have all of the answers but he does offer hope. He also has the intelligence to lead us in a better direction. Does anyone really agree with John McCain when he says that "The fundamentals of the economy are strong" or when Sara Palin says that she does not think that humans are causing global warming? The Republicans have done a miserable job! There, I said it. Since 1969. 39 years!, The Republicans have had the White House for 27 of those years. Since 1969, the first time the federal government ran a budget surplus, was 1998 during the Clinton administration. After 8 years of the Neo-Con top down management style of George Bush, we now stand torn apart and nearly in financial ruin in so many places and so many ways. The differential between the haves and have nots is greater than ever. Now, more than ever, we need hope. Hope for you and hope for me. Hope that we can have the wisdom to safely take us through this ever changing century and beyond. The militaristic thinking of John McCain will certainly not do that. Does anyone really believe that Sara Palin stopped the bridge to nowhere? Not even close, she tried her best to get it. Folks, there is a 1 in 4 chance that John McCain will die in the next four years and that would put Sara Palin in the drivers seat and then what? John Mcain picked Sara Palin to create excitement in his campaign because his message lacks the hope we need. He is driven by personal desire for the Presidency and nothing else. 27 years is a long time, too long if you ask me to go without hope.
